The “York Rite” is not technically a rite and it is not meant to be hierarchical and in sequence, as is commonly misunderstood in the U.S. The “rite” is comprised of three separate bodies that cooperate together and each body has its own distinct history. This is quite unlike the A. & S.R. degrees that, today, are meant to be complementary and hierarchical.

FYI–The Royal Arch is the considered the only “completion” of the Craft degres. The “cryptic degrees” were once a part of the A. & A.S.R. and the K.T. orders are not specifically a part of the Craft; they are “beyond” the Craft degrees and are, therefore, extracurricular.

OK. It's not in Canada and, in fact, one is required to have it to be able to preside in a Council. As well, the Red Cross of Constantine is exclusively Christian.

FYI: The Shrine is not an appendant order (in the U.S., there are technically only two–the AASR and the so-called York Rite, aka The American Rite). The Shrine, like the O.E.S., etc. are concordant bodies and are so because while they do not confer any degrees of Freemasonry, they are under the umbrella of such (but only prominently in the U.S.).
